Good Bye 2011!

This year was such a big year for me!

I managed to land a really great job, that I love. After working so many that I have never really enjoyed..it is nice to finally have one that I do!

I moved into my own place. Which I am very excited to share with you in the coming months!

I got baptized! Can you say life changing? Ha.

I enjoyed a trip to Disney with my family where I swam with dolphins!

I finally was a bride's maid in my sister's wedding. I even rode a scary sky scraper ride the next day!

I saw my all time favorite band, Blink 182, with my two best friends! AWESOME! They even filmed a music video! So now every time I watch it..I will know that I made up that crowd singing along in front of them!

I had tons of fun in 2011 and 2012 is going to be great.

I can't wait to start the new year!

I am not going to lie...I love a good pencil skirt and fitting blazer.

How To Stop Biting Your Nails

I recently over came the habit of biting my nails. I thought I would share how I accomplished such a feat!

Paint Your Nails!

No one likes to ruin a perfectly good manicure!

Let the paint be a reminder not to bite.

Go one step further by paying for a manicure, just another reason not to mess it up!

When The Paint Chips....Redo it!

This takes getting used to.

If you have to do it every day, then do it!

Chipped paint won't stop you from biting plus it looks bad!

Keep Them Clipped!

If they are too long you might be tempted.

Once a nail breaks it can become a nuisance causing you to want bite.

Instead of using your teeth use a file or nail clippers.

Use A Secret Weapon!

Prenatal vitamins help your nails grow fast and strong.

If you are embarrassed to use them you can use Biotin.

Beware, your hair will also sprout like a weed!

If you still can't beat the habit try chewing gum or chewing something else. It also helps to pin point the times you do it most...while watching tv? when nervous? Try to be extra cautious during these times. You can also ask a friend to keep you in track. If they see you biting have them give you a reminder to quit!

These are the tips that worked for me. I hope they help!

Your Saving Guide to Wearing One Color

It's true..there are people in the world that wear only one color. It is one sure way to make a statement with your style. However it's not for everyone but if you have ever given thought to committing to just one color, than this is for you!

If you decide to commit to one color to wear all the time it should definitely be a color that you love. It should also be a color that looks good with your skin tone.
It should also be a color that is easy to find unless you decide that you have the time to dye all of your clothes or make all of them yourself.
Also you must decide if you want to go strictly with one shade of a certain color. This could make it a little more difficult to build your wardrobe. Wearing varying shades will allow for more interesting outfits.

Creating a mix of textures, shades, and materials will help add interest to your outfits. Keep an eye out for lace, colored leather, sequins, or matte and shiny fabrics. Remember that colors come in different shades and this is especially important to remember when buying from different places. Not all reds are going to look the same (not even all shades of black!). Wearing different shades of a color is a great way to create a dramatic look. Pieces that already combine two different shades are also great to watch out for.

Take advantage of embellishments as well. Look for studs, rhinestones, buttons, ruffles, pockets, and bows.

Decide of you want your accessories to be the same color. Adding a belt in the same color can add interest as well as adding one in a different texture but adding a belt of a different color can add a nice pop. Jewelry of a neutral color always works. Diamonds add nice sparkle and pretty much go with any color.

Another accessory you could consider is your hair. I personally think that matching hair color (when it comes to something unnatural) is just too much. I have had about every shade imaginable and I tended to stay away from wearing the same color. If you only accent your hair with the color (say streaks or dyed ends) I don't think it is too much to wear the same color. However that is my opinion but it is something to be considered.

Sometimes just keeping it simple with one color is the best way to go. So consider cutting back on accessories.

This is probably the most important rule. Wearing one color every day is a BIG commitment so don't be afraid if you get tired of it and want to change. Don't be afraid to change your mind about the color either.

Blame it on watching Better Off Ted but I have been dreaming of working in an office. How nice it would be to wear your own clothes and actually look nice. I still have yet to find a job so I decided to make some outifts and share with you what I would wear if I worked in an office.

I recently dreamed up pairing light purple with cheetah print. I may have seen it somewhere but I don't really remember where. I also fell in love with a furry bag in a thrift store. It came complete with little hardware buttons on the straps. If only I had the money to buy it!

I would totally wear outrageous shirts under my blazer as well as big clunky boots under my pants. Then I would complete the whole look with an incredibly large bright pink bag!

Why I No Longer Have Facebook

I saw this video just the other day and decided to share my Facebook experience.

I am a member of almost every social networking site available...almost. I have a Blogger (of course), Tumblr, Flickr, Twitter, Myspace(though I am not active there), and a ton that I don't remember signing up for, but I don't have a Facebook.

I have been Facebook free for about four months now and I really can't tell you how different it is to be on the other side. You begin to realize how much people rely on social networking sites for every day social connections. I came to this realization one day when someone who barely knew my name told me that they would just find me on Facebook.

Everyone's Facebook experience is different but here is what I realized.

The people that I talked to most on Facebook where the ones I talked to nearly every day in real life.
I know what they look like and usually what they are up too.
I don't really plan on keeping in touch with all of my classmates. I mean they won't be surprised at our ten year reunion when they know everything going on in my life right?
I learned things about people that I just didn't want to know. Some people just don't understand the meaning of too much information.
I am just not interested in Farmville or any other game they are playing.
I had entirely too many people hidden because they posted unnecessary or just plain annoying things. There really was no point for me to be there when I only communicated with the people I talked to every day either on the phone or in real life.
There also was a bit of family drama going on on Facebook. It really was quite ridiculous.

Like I said, everyone's Facebook experience is different and it really is a good way to keep in touch with far away friends but a phone call or actual visit is far more fulfilling. I also realized that it just wasn't really that interesting. Think about how many times you check Facebook in a day to see if anything has changed. Most of the time it's nothing significant or worthy of your time.

I do like to inspire people. I also love dressing up and I like fashion magazines. I like cutting up fashion magazines the most.

She's a hoodrat who needs an attitude adjustment.

My hair is pretty intense today but it's cold and rainy and it feels like it's already six o'clock at night. This outfit makes me feel like I stepped back in time to high school. I've had that darn hoodie since ninth grade and it's full of holes but it is the best thing on days like today. The jeans are new and this is the first time that I have ever had jeans that already had holes in them and weren't put there from someone wearing your pants and attempting to climb a fence.

It's time for a change...

So Gala made a post yesterday about her change in her daily routine and it really made me think maybe it was time I actually made one.

So here it is...

Wake up early! Right now I usually wake up around noon. This needs to change especially if I end up getting a job. My sleeping schedule really needs a makeover.
Drink Tea! I recently discovered how much I enjoy drinking tea. I can't have coffee so it's nice to have something in the morning to give me a boost. Not to mention I recently discovered the benefits of drinking tea.
Clean! My room is constantly in a state of disarray and it's really bothering me. Time to make sure it stays straightened up. Also I may make it a goal to get rid of so much stuff every few months. I have entirely too much junk! AHH!
Make To-Do lists! I used to do this in high school so that I could get all of my work done and it worked! I need to start doing it again.
Limber up! This year I am taking a trip to Disney as wells as London. Both require a ton of walking so I need to prepare. I may start walking around my neighborhood.
Learn more about my faith! I feel like there is an endless amount to learn and I am just starting out so I have a lot of work cut out for me.

With my new routine I should be able to get more accomplished. Especially with waking up earlier. I will have more time to craft and write blogs! (YAY!)

Everything I loved about 2010...

I shot my first wedding, I got a really great hair cut that even looks good now, I moved back home, My questions have been answered in so many ways, I built a better relationship with my sister, I got over an argument with my other sister, I got to see my nieces several times, I turned 21, I started my 365 day project, I fell in love with Kid Kudi, I watched the entire series of My Name is Earl, I had my first sales on Etsy, I got paid to take photographs, I was in my first art show, I participated in my first 30 for 30 challenge, I bought my first DSLR Camera, I found a great church, I cut up tons of magazines, I made tons of crafts, I went roller skating with my niece, I fell in love with octopuses, I dreamt of zombies, I found a perfect pair of boots, I built an awesome fort, I wrote tons of love letters, I decorated an amazing desk, I enjoyed mint tea and crepes, and I renewed my faith.

2010 has been such a strange year, nothing went according to plan but it turned out better than expected!

Good bye 2010, I love you!

This is my style inspiration for 2011.

Holly has incredibly long wavy green hair. When she goes to work at the aquarium she pulls her hair back with red ribbons. She can be seen often time wearing large red glasses.

She carries a notebook and camera where ever she goes. She wears boots with almost every outfit and accents her cute dresses with spiked belts.

Her hands are adorned with over the top rings and her nails are usually painted purple. Holly loves all things seventies. She loves to wear flared jeans and striped sweaters. Tie dye is also a staple of her wardrobe. The octopus is her animal of choice.

She is incredibly girly and polite but not at all a pushover. She has her own place even though it is just a small house with chipped paint. Inside the walls are bright teal with tiny gold accents. Magazines are stacked against the walls and pictures line up frame to frame.

Her hero is Stargirl and like her she changes her name nearly every day. You are pretty convinced she walked out of an Isabel Allende novel or maybe even the sea itself.

So here are my last two outfits from the 30 for 30 Challenge.

The green sweater wasn't originally in my choices but I never ended up wearing my one striped skirt and as the weather increased in coldness I decided to change it out for the green sweater.

And this is the outfit I wore once the challenge was over. It was a little bit weird being able to choose anything I wanted.

I enjoyed the challenge and hopefully if I do it again I can avoid my camera breaking and avoid getting sick.

I generally don't make too many personal posts but I feel like I need to share.

This quote couldn't get anymore real for me. That last couple of months have been this way.

I moved back home in August and while I sit at home every day with not much to do, no job, and no money, I know that I am exactly where I should be. I have found a church and each and every service answers questions I have had. Literally the very questions floating around in my head are answered directly.

I have encountered more support is the last month than I ever have.

I also feel like an entirely new person. I sit back and think of how I was just a few years ago and how I was in high school and that person feels like an entirely separate being. I almost don't agree with everything I used to believe. I know some of it has to do with growing up but I know there is a much bigger change happening.

I said to God "Open my eyes!" and he has shown me more than I could ever imagine and continues to do so every day.

Blessings are never ending.

I was seriously sick this past week and I spent most of my time in bed. Which also means I spent most of my time in my pajamas. So I only have three outfits for this week. Last Sunday which is the day I woke up with a sore throat and all my trouble began and this Saturday and Sunday which were the only days I really did anything while feeling even a little better.

I really think my brain went on hiatus this week as well. I just wasn't feeling very creative.

This week has been incredibly hectic! First my camera breaks..and then Thanksgiving came and boy did we have guests! I am incredibly exhausted. I also have now come down with a sickness. When You Don't Have Anything Nice to Say....

Because is seems like such a hot topic at the moment, I want to give my two cents on bullying.

I learned today that Perez Hilton had vowed to change his ways. He claims that he never saw himself as a bully until now. He always made excuses about celebs saying that they signed up for what he dished out. I have never been much of a fan of him strictly because he was so mean in his posts. I have to say I am happy that he has decided to change but it just makes me question...How can it be possible for someone to gain fame by being a bully?

I am not just talking of Perez Hilton either. My mom seems to enjoy watching the Bad Girls Club...I however do not. I don't understand how someone would want to live like that. Always getting in fights and just simply being very nasty (not to mention often times trashy). This same idea appears on other shows, The Real Housewives of Whatever State is hot this week, Jerseylicious, Jersey Shore and not to mention probably a whole other handful of shows.

I don't watch any of them. (I'm sorry but I just don't delight in watching grown adults fight.)

They make their fame from saying nasty things about one another and fighting. No wonder it seems that the youth think that bullying is okay. They are surrounded by it.

The fact is...bullying is NOT okay. It never ever is. EVER!

You know that you would never want to be bullied, you know that no one wants to be bullied, so don't do it!

Every single person on this planet just wants to live a happy life and everyone wants to be loved.

Every single person on this planet deserves to live a happy life and everyone deserves to be loved, regardless of what you may think.

If you don't agree with how someone lives their life just take a deep breath and be happy that no one is forcing you to live that way.

If you don't like how someone dresses just take a deep breath and be happy you don't have to dress that way.

There is no valid arguement for being a bully. No excuses or justifications.

Bullying certainly doesn't make you cool.

When lives are being lost because of hateful things being said or done you know if it time to take action. Frankly, action should have been taken earlier in order to prevent such tragedies.

If you have ever been bullied or are currently being bullied, I want you to know even though it may seem hard but school doesn't last forever.

Nothing anyone ever says, no matter how hateful, is ever worth you taking your own life or theirs.

Just because certain people don't find you beautiful, interesting, or smart doesn't mean that no one ever will.

You can make it out of this stronger.

If things have gotten really bad and you have considered drastic measures, talk to someone, anyone.

I suppose I am having a bit of a morbid week though I feel this post is anything but morbid.

It seems when there is a loss in your family or among friends you can't help but talk of what will happen when others you know pass or when you yourself will pass.

I have to say that when I go I do not want anyone to shed a single tear. It pains me to think that I would make anyone upset now or ever.

I want my life to be celebrated not mourned.

Buy yourself flowers instead of sending them to my family.

Donate to a charity in my name.

Dance.

Laugh when you remember me.

Dream of me.

Give all my stuff to those who need it.

This post is not to make anyone sad just to remind them that death is not always a tragedy. It is nothing to be feared and no matter who you lose they will always exist in your heart and mind and will forever be with you.

Hello darlings...

I am not going to post a list this week but instead I will tell you the story of what has been going on with me lately.

I had two job interviews this week. One was Monday for a craft store which I would have enjoyed because I am fully addicted to crafting. As soon as I returned home from this interview I checked my email and realized that another company had contacted me for an interview over skype. They are offering one of my dream jobs. So I never heard back from the craft store but that doesn't matter. I had my interview on skype and have managed to land a second interview. How exciting!?!?! I am also excited because I am having a surprise visit from my favorite people this weekend. ( A Surprise for my parents that is.)

I was very very thrilled but awoke this morning to find that one of my family's very dear friends had passed away. It might sound cliche but I know she is happy now. She lost her husband many years ago and has battled many health complications due to having mouth cancer. I will miss her dearly.

I just wanted to share with you after talking with my sister. She remarked on how it seems that every time something good happens and you start to do really good for yourself, something negative happens. I can't say it happens all the time but it does seem that way. I don't really look at the world like this. Negative things are always going to happen no matter how happy your life may seem. Sad moments are necessary and often times help you to cherish the happier times even more. All these moments pass with time.

I must admit that I used to think that things only got worse as time goes by but that simply isn't true. You will have horrific times in your life but you will also have beautiful times. Both are necessary in life.

You may dream of the perfect life were nothing bad ever happens but that just isn't the definition of a perfect life. Even the darker times in life can lead you to better things.

I hope this makes sense. My emotions are in a state of flux.

I hope your week has been beautiful whether it has been good or bad.

A Thought About Real Women

Have you ever heard someone say "Real women have curves."? (There is also a movie with this title.)

This statement bothers me. Sure I do agree, real women have curves, but women without curves are still women! Women come in all shapes, sizes, and shades. No woman should ever be told that she isn't real and she should definitely never be told that she isn't beautiful.

You are beautiful!

Whether your skin is as white as snow or as dark as the night sky and whether or not that skin stretches over a thin frame or a wide frame, you are beautiful. You are real.

Real women are tall, real women are short, real women are in between,

Real women have messy hair, real women have nice hair.

Real women have insecurities, real women are confident, real women are both insecure and confident.

Real women work jobs and break through glass ceilings, real women stay at home and raise children.

Society paints a picture of what a woman should be but you must remember it may be true for one person but it doesn't have to be true for you. You are always going to be yourself and you will be loved for that.
I feel many younger girls are pressured into trying to change themselves in the hopes that all of a sudden everyone will like them more. They are often blind to the fact that the ones who really matter already like them. Your friends don't like you because you look like someone in a magazine. They already like you just how you are. They like you because they have fun with you and it doesn't have anything to do with your looks.

You are a real woman and you are beautiful.

You can do whatever it is that you dream of. Never let anything stand in your way.

So I had a skirt just like this in high school which I would wear with knee high strappy boots. Eventually I got rid of the skirt but I missed it. How can you invest in that perfect item of clothing that you are just dying to add to your wardrobe but you can't afford at the moment?

You may be thinking of a credit card....but no! Credit cards are not always a good thing and can lead to debt. (As you should already know.)

My secret weapon of choice is....

Layaway!

You only pay a small amount of the original price and then they keep the item for you until you pay the rest. That way instead of spending all of your money on that perfect item you can just spend a little and pay it off after you have the rest of the money.

The sad part is that not everywhere offers layaway. Most places have done away with it due to the increased use of credit cards.

My favorite place that has layaway?

Kmart!

I found the perfect blazer there just a few weeks ago and it was half price. It was only $15 but at this point even that is too much for my budget! Then I told my mom and she reminded me of the wonderful option of Layaway!

It took me forever to figure out just what to do with it! Finally after trying with no luck to make it into a strapless dress...I decided to make it a high waisted skirt! Now I'm in love!!

I wore it with my black tank top and my tan wedges. I also wore the necklace my mom bought me that is covered in dark blue gems.

This is a bit of a special Cheapie Tuesday. I found this shirt at the new thrift store where you can buy clothes for $0.99 a pound! I loved the colors but the sleeves were too short! I also felt that there were just too many stripes!

Today I went for very bright colors. I wore my five dollar shirt from Rue 21 as well as my "banana" shoes from Rue 21.

I am completely in love with this bow necklace! I saw it at Hot Topic a really long time ago but it was $14!! I went back yesterday and it had been reduced to just $3..so I bought myself two!

My hair has been completely crazy today!

The Perfect Pair of Boots

I have been searching for the perfect pair of boots for a while now. Even though it's summer..I have finally found them!

I found them brand new at Goodwill. There were no creases or any signs of wear. I have done all the damage myself!

The Best part is that they were only $3.99! Brand new boots for less than four dollars!

I'm Back!

Sorry for the lack of updates but I am back!

Right after school ended I rushed into doing exactly what is is I want to do and boy do I mean rushed! The day after my last day of class I was out shooting a wedding! Insane!
I really enjoyed it and it really made me see how important it is to do exactly what it is that you want to do! No matter how crazy it is.
The conditions at my regular job continue to decline. I can't imagine staying there forever! Not that I really planned to...

Anyway..I hope everyone follows their dreams not matter how crazy or impossible they seem! Go for it!

Lush Addict

As humans we live very chemical lives. We ingest chemicals, breathe chemicals and smear them on our face and body. Lush is a wonderful alternative being made from all natural products. It smells amazing and is vegetarian!

These are some of the Lush products I currently own.

This is the Godiva shampoo bar. It smells just like a bouqet of flowers. It lathers nicely and leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean. The only downside to the shampoo bars is they tend to melt really fast if you don't keep them from getting wet. You can't leave them in a spot that they can get drenched in water especially when you share a shower.

I am completely in love with Tea Tree Water. It smells fresh and it leaves my skin feeling refreshed. I use it on my face almost every day and it is a wonder for taking off make up. You can see the dirt that it removes on your cotton ball.

After the Tea Tree Water I use Grease Lightning. It is a spot treatment. It smells pretty much just like the Tea Tree Water and it works pretty well. It doesn't work as fast as some of the leading brands but it works and leaves your sking feeling nice, soft, and smooth.

American Cream Solid Perfume smells SO AMAZING! Well if you like vanilla scented stuff. I Love it! It's a nice light scent that is not overpowering but you will catch wiffs of it all day long. It's just like lip balm that you rub on your skin and it's not very oily. It's definitly one of my favorites.

If you love the feeling of your face after you have swam in the ocean, you will love Ocean Salt. It was a bit exspensive and I wasn't sure that I like it at first but It has definitly caught my heart. My skin feels smooth afterwards just like a day at the beach. It has vodka in it so it makes your skin kind of hot while you use it. There are large grains of salt that are great for exfoliating. It smells like salty water with a hint of lemon. (I know that sounds weird but trust me, it smells GOOD!)

The Strokes is probably my least favorite. It smells like baby food with extra spices. It's not a bad smell but not the best. I already have really thick hair and it seems like The Strokes makes it feel thicker. It is intended to be used as a hair mask before you wash. It does kind of work when you use it as a mask but seems to work better if you just leave it in your hair. It is almost a good substitute for hair gel.
